New Deal, Great Society The Democrats who controlled congress and the Presidential office during 1933-1936 and 1964-1969 revitalized the United States for the better. They had bold ideas that helped transform this nation, and made the American public have faith in Government. President Franklin D. Roosevelt who was President from 1933 to 1945, gave America the New Deal, which created programs to deal with the relief for the unemployed and poor, reform for the financial system, and recovery of the economy. President Lyndon B. Johnson who was President from 1963 to 1969, gave America the Great Society, which took on poverty, civil rights, education, and health care. Americans today rely on a lot of this programs to get by, but what saddens me about it is that they have no idea where they came from. A lot of these folks rely on Government but they also hate on the Government because elected officials demonize that same government they work for. So in my opinion, if people are going to apply for Government programs their should be labels specifying when it was signed and who passed it into law so people have an understanding of why its important to vote.
