Wendy Davis True Texan Hero

State senator Wendy Davis gave me hope for Texas and some of its lawmakers. The state of Texas has been under Governor Perrys rule for 13 years now and it feels good for somebody to stand up to him and the Republicans. Here is a Video.

Is Freedom of the Press in Trouble

Is freedom of the press in trouble in America, we are so quick to judge other countries for silencing their citizens but we are starting to silence our journalists for the sake of security. Freedom of the press is part of the Constitution for a reason and I hope we have a good debate on whether security is more important than an informed public.

Snowden Hero or Traitor

Edward Snowden is in big trouble with the federal government for leaking classified information to a journalist about the NSA keeping phone records of Americans. Now would you consider him a hero or a traitor, many law makers consider him a traitor but, the ACLU considers him a hero. I understand that both sides have a reason for why we should or should not keep this program. The reason to keep the program is to make sure that we keep the United States safe from those who seek to harm us. The reason we should not keep is because its not American to spy on Americans, the forefathers created the the constitution to protect Americans from big government.

True Government Overreach

Republicans tend to freak out about government overreach. They worry the government is going to take your guns, that government shouldn't be in healthcare or that government shouldn't regulate companies. But when it comes to Americans having privacy they won't criticize the government for being involved. The one example of government overreach is the NSA collecting phone records of Americans through Verizon.

No Country For Lou Dobbs

Lou Dobbs is a very opinionated news anchor and every single word that comes out of his mouth is negative. Just the way he portrays himself, makes it seem like the world is going to end because of illegal immigrants and women being the breadwinners of the household. Here are some videos of his finest moments.

Blocking of Judges

The senate needs to stop blocking Presidents Obamas judicial appointees. Judges are not supposed to be political, they just follow the law. So it makes no sense to block a nominee because he or she was nominated by the President. Just look at the graph below and see the comparison of Ronald Reagen to Obama when it comes to the time the senate spent on confirming judges.

What's the Alternative

Obamacare is getting ready to take the nation by storm and insurance companies are releasing the first rates of the insurance exchange. We are starting to see that some of those insurance companies are starting to bring the rates down, so that means Obama was right. My state of Texas is refusing to give into the medicaid expansion plan and so many poor Americans are going to pay the price. Without offering an alternative and playing politics, our Governor Rick Perry has shown that he would rather let poor Texans suffer than let the federal government in.

Megyn Kelly Attacks

Lou Dobbs and Erick Erickson are the example of what conservative men really think of single mothers with a job. They like to criticize whatever doesn't fit with their idea of a perfect America, and that perfect America would be men being the dominant head of the household and the breadwinner. But Megyn Kelly even though she is conservative and a Fox News anchor didn't let them get away with the sexist comments they made. Watch video.

Raise Minimum Wage

Raising the minimum wage is a big issue for a lot of conservatives. The top 1 percent of Americans who are wealthy don't like the idea of giving some of the revenue that the company made to employees, so they have conservatives making sure the minimum wage isn't raised.

Media Outlets Do Not Attend

The Justice Department is trying to play nice with major media outlets who are upset over the AP Scandal by having an off the record meeting. But some of the big news organizations are not happy with it being of the record, as they should be. Journalism is about putting big stories on record, and for the justice department to try to keep it off record is dumb.

The True Handout

Many Republicans say that giving money to the unemployed or struggling Americans is a handout. They think people that are unemployed are lazy and drug junkies. I have to give it to the Republicans they have the propaganda and the money to label unemployed Americans as lazy. But the true handout takers are the rich 1 percent of Americans who got tax breaks thanks to President Bush while the others got no tax breaks.

Double Standard

The justice department has become hypocritical when it comes to prosecuting individuals. When Aaron Swartz broke a law that in my opinion should have been a misdemeanor the justice department threw the book at him by over-prosecuting with 13 felonies. But who is holding the justice department accountable for its actions in the AP scandal, no one of course because they are the prosecutors.

Funding of Science

Science has always been a key for the United States to stay as one of the most powerful countries in the world. But thanks to the sequester many research facilities that are critical to this nations future are starting to lose funding. Education and science are very critical to this nation and for some of the Republicans who call the funding pork is despicable. What they call pork I would call an investment in America, when investments are made in the right departments , new technologies emerge.

Economy Looking Up

President Obama faced three scandals last week, but it really didn't affect his positive polling. That is because the economy is looking much better. The unemployment rate went down and the stock market is at all time highs. So he has to make sure he stays on the economy, brings down the deficit, and make sure that laws are created to protect journalists. He also has to make sure the Justice Departments stays within the constitution and doesn't overstep its bounds.

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Press Not Happy

The press is not happy with President Obama right now. His justice department crossed the line when they started looking for a leak in the press. Its started with the AP getting mad at the justice department for going through its phone records without consent and now a fox news journalist. I do agree with the press when it comes to the federal government just barging in demanding answers without a warrant. There is a fine line between national security and our constitutional rights, freedom of the press is there for a reason, to hold the government accountable for its actions. That goes for Democrat or Republican administrations. So if President Obama is serious about constitutional rights and wants to get his credibility back with the press he needs to pass the Journalist Shield Law.

Impeachment Really!!

So many Republicans are already thinking impeachment on the President, without even looking at the facts. Republicans have lost all credibility with the average American because they hated the President since day 1. So for them to even bring up impeachment is laughable, especially since President Bush did the biggest cover up with the war in Iraq, lying to us about the weapons of mass destruction.

DOJ and Treasury

The two biggest and most important departments in the United States did not do President Obama a favor when the scandals broke out. Now the news media is all over the scandals instead of focusing on the true problems, like the economy and immigration. The US economy is still fragile and many Americans are still out of work, in order for the US get its economy growing it needs to invest in its infrastructure. Another big problem is immigration, the congress is actually making progress on reforming immigration laws and we have to make sure we don't get sidetracked in not going through with the legislation.

John Stewart!!

John Stewart took on all the media that piled on President Obama for the scandals that have rocked his administration.

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Really Republicans

Instead of Republicans creating new laws or focusing on the 2014 election. They are focused on repealing Obamacare, if they put that much effort into working with the President maybe things would get done in Washington. Its just unbelievable that they care more about politics than the people.

Journalist Shield Law

Ever since the state department started tapping AP Journalists phones, the AP has lost a lot of credibility with a lot of potential sources. That is why the Journalist Shield law needs to be reintroduced in congress because news organizations are not going to have leads. I understand they tapped the phones to find a leaks but are seriously going to give up our civil liberties for national security. I think we all have to put this saying in our mind "all we have to fear is fear itself" by Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Students Stand Up

American young people are pressured to go college and make something out of themselves, by teachers, mom and dads, and society itself. But what many of those people don't understand is that going to school is not same anymore. Student loans and the interest it takes in enslave young people to have to worry about that debt. What good is a college degree without a job and no job means no growth to this economy. Any loan company that that profits from a student and any for profit school that gets more money from that same student for a major that really doesn't make money should be ashamed of itself.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Eric Holder Must Step Down

Attorney General Eric Holder has to resign, he is making the Obama administration lose credibility. From the fast and furious scandal, to Aaron Swartz prosecution, and now the IRS and AP probe. Republicans are surely going to politicize this, but as Democrats we also have to hold the Attorney General accountable to show that we are not just about party politics but about ethics.

Monday, May 13, 2013

Governmental Restructure

I think it is time for the United States to restructure all departments, to make them work more efficiently and more precise. The government needs to focus on departments working together to help solve everyday problems or to make life easier for the American people. An excellent example of how government can bridge the gap is when I filed my financial aid and filed my taxes I did everything online. I didn't have to get a copy of my taxes to take to school, all I had to do is link my IRS information to my financial aid. That makes it easier and less complicated and if we could do that with other departments the United States will spend less money and might help bring down the deficit.

The True Cover Up

The Republicans are starting to call out President Obama on the Benghazi tragedy. Many of them are savoring at the fact that they could probably impeach the President. Some of them even have the audacity to compare it to the Watergate scandal. If the Republicans plan to take this tragedy and turn it into a political game, it is going to be difficult because they have much more baggage when it comes to cover ups. Should the American people remind them about the Iraq war and how we were lied to about the weapons of mass destruction. If the Republicans weren't so destined to bring Obamas Presidency down, maybe they would have point. The American people are not going to go through another blame game just because the other side wants to score points on four murdered Americans, if that is the case what about the other Americans who died fighting on false pretenses.

Impact of Student Debt

Many Republicans don't care about students and the debt they inherent after they go to school. Here are some graphs that will paint a picture of why students aren't investing in America as they should.

Back To Benghazi!!!

So the Benghazi incident is back in the headlines, because of the emails the White House and the State Department sent to each other back and fourth after the issue. This tragic incident needs to be let go so we could get back to the real issues, lets not point fingers. If we are going to start pointing fingers on this tragedy, liberals should start pointing fingers at past Republican Presidential failures.

Every Student Should Watch This

Senator Elizabeth Warren is a fighter for the middle class, she is always calling out the big banks because they get treated better by the Federal government. In this video she makes the case of why the federal reserve should lower the interest rates of students to the interest rate levels of the banks who get a great deal.

Hero

Charles Ramsey became a hero for saving the lives of three kidnapped girls. Sometimes you don't know who your neighbors are and Charles did not know that the kidnapper was holding the girls against their will. That should make all of us open our eyes and watch the neighborhood a little bit closer because you never know who your neighbor is.

New Beginning For El Paso, TX

El Paso, TX is a city that is usually looked down upon compared to other Texas cities like Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. But what many people don't understand is that El Paso has ranked number 1 as one of the safest cities in the United States even though we are right next to one of the most violent cities in the world. El Paso has so much potential when it comes to young enthusiastic El Pasoans like myself, but the job market here is not the best. When it come to Tech jobs it is really hard to find one and it was ranked in last place on PCworld magazine. El Paso needs to stop importing call centers because those types of jobs don't guarantee job security and they pay low wages. They need to start focusing on investing in small businesses so that we create the jobs of the future here instead of focusing on businesses that might not be there for us in the future. But El Paso has started to do some revitalization in downtown to attract new businesses and it recently did away with city hall to make way for a brand new triple A baseball stadium and it also demolished the ASARCO smokestacks that were so popular with El Pasoans to make that real estate land available for future businesses or maybe a theme park. This city is going in the right direction and it needs to concentrate on bringing new things so that its residents could be proud of it.

Person Not A Number

In this economy its very hard to find a good job so its understandable that many companies are taking advantage of many people. Workers are scrutinized more and many don't feel safe because they are under the watchful eye of managers and supervisors. That is why many young people create the jobs of the future because they don't want to be treated like cattle. The job market today is very uncertain, you could be the best worker but when the company has to trim the fat or should I say lay you off, they would rather do that before they take a pay cut.

Congressional Overhaul

Its time for Americans to stand up and hold elected representatives responsible for the actions that they have caused that have affected many Americans. If Congress doesn't get its act together and start working with each instead of criticizing each others party affiliation, then it is time for an overhaul. The American people should draft the legislation and have the representative that represents them sign the legislation.

Rush Limbaugh Downfall

Ever since Rush Limbaugh made despicable remarks about Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" and "prostitute", he has felt the wrath of the American public. The American public figured that the FCC wouldn't do anything about it so they went for the next best thing, advertisers. It seems to have worked because Clear Channel (Rush Limbaughs parent company) has said they have lost money because of his show. Rush Limbaugh recently on his show acknowledged the boycott that was happening, so that probably means its working.

Need for Infrastructure Spending

Many Republicans think that by investing in America we are digging ourselves into more debt, we would rather send billions overseas than spend it in America. I would rather see pork projects built in America, I call it pork because that is what Republicans think investing in America is. The Republicans are fine spending billions when it comes to making the rich comfortable but when it comes to improving infrastructure to make the middle class more efficient it is a waste of money.

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Overturning Citizens United

Ever since the Supreme courts ruling on Citizens United, which opened the flood gates to donors who did not have to disclose information about who they were when they contributed to political parties, many Americans weren't happy. That is why Senator Ron Wyden and Lisa Murkowski unveiled a bipartisan bill called the Follow the Money Act which would make it so that any group that spends at least 10,000 dollars on electoral activity has to register and disclose contributions above 1,000 dollars.

Border Security

Lawmakers need to start touring the border between Mexico and the United States. Some lawmakers who are part of the immigration reform process need to start touring El Paso, Tx and San Diego, CA the two cities that made it on the safest cities list. Those two cities were not affected at all during the drug war that was happening in Mexico, both cities had Juarez and Tijuana as neighbors, the two most dangerous cities to live in. They need to stop talking tough about border security and see what cities like El Paso, and San Diego are doing to bring down the crime.

Prosecutor Aggression

Prosecutors are supposed to be the good guys in the court, they are supposed to make sure the bad guys are locked up. They bring charges against them, and they make sure that those who broke the law pay a price. But recently some prosecutors are going overboard when a comes to bringing charges against individuals who have not committed the biggest crimes. They won't go after bankers who almost tanked the economy but they will go after an individual who believed the the freedom of information online.

Cold War is Over

Many Americans need to realize that the Cold War is over, Russia is not a communist state anymore, it hasn't been a communist state since 1991. Many lawmakers still think that Russia is still our enemy, many of them need to be updated on the current situation. Russia and the United States face the same problems, and the biggest one is terrorism. So these lawmakers shouldn't worry about petty differences America and Russia have, especially when it comes to the rights of individuals. America does not have the best record when comes to individual rights and neither does Russia, but both countries are learning from mistakes. Both countries should concentrate on terrorism now that both have been affected by it.

Texas Republican Hypocrites

Texas has a lot of Republican politicians, many of them hate anything that has to do with the federal government or our Presidents policies. Texas Governor Rick Perry is not shy about hating the federal government, he wants nothing to do with Obamacare even though the state has 28.8 uninsured Americans. Another bright Republican politician is Senator Ted Cruz, he thinks Texas deserves federal help when it comes to a plant explosion but when it comes to hurricane Sandy help its pork.

America The Poor

Every congressmen should take a look at this video and that is including the President. Is this what America is going to be like in the future. The middle class is losing its foothold in America and if the goes the rich could kiss the profits they make goodbye.

GOP Rebranding

The Republicans have had a hard time reaching minorities in many states, they have been having trouble trying to make the party seem very inclusive to every race. But they have done damage to the credibility they used to have with Hispanics when George W. Bush used to be in office. Many Hispanics who are 40 years old and under have started to see a Republican party that is not supportive of them but demeans them. When you are called wetback, illegal alien, and other names even if you are a legal resident or citizen, by an elected official, it tends to affect your mind and your vote.

Westboro Baptist Church Attention

American media needs to stop paying attention to Westboro Baptist Church. By giving Westboro coverage its only feeding the agenda they live by. Hate is a powerful tool but it should not be publicized, many Americans don't want to see a so called christian denomination demonize individuals for being different. So lets stop giving this hate mongers a reason to picket and focus on the good and not the bad.

The Gun Lobby Won

Americans have let the gun lobby win by not standing up and fighting for those of us who have lost a loved one to a person who had access to a gun. So lets celebrate the gun lobby for their victory and for the senators who will do their bidding.

Cyber Security Advance Not Block As cyber security threats become more of a big issue in congress, some of the lawmakers who have no experience when it comes to technology are going to start passing bills that might have unintended purposes on innovation. Instead of creating new laws that might block innovation, invest in better technologies or hire hackers to fight fire with fire.

Boston First Responders The first responders to the Boston Marathon explosion were just amazing. When the bombs went off they were taking down the guardrails to help their fellow human beings. Acts like this make me proud to be an American, and whoever pulled this hideous and vicious attack, will answer to justice pretty soon.
Reforming Taxes As Americans are looking to file their taxes before the deadline, we have to wonder what we should do to make filing more easy and fast. The IRS is already getting with the times and making electronic filing more easier, but some third party companies who profit from average Americans filing their taxes at their place have two senators on their side, which doesn't surprise me. The two senators plan to block the IRS from developing its own software that competes with Turbotax, or other businesses that help Americans file.

Hispanics Should know Their Rights Here is and article I read that stunned me about how our government is conducting raids without warrants just because peoples are of Hispanic origin. Click Here.
Jay Z Beyonce Trip To Cuba When celebrities get special treatment from our government, and the average person doesn't, it should be a wake up call. Recently Jay Z and Beyonce got permission from the Treasury department to go visit Havana, Cuba. It is against American law to go visit Cuba because of its abuses towards its citizens and because of the embargo America has on it. So if the United States is serious about people not visiting Cuba then it should apply to all people including celebrities.
Regulators Watch Out I said it once and I will say it again thank you Massachusetts for sending Senator Elizabeth Warren to Congress. Congress really needed someone with guts to take on the regulators who are just letting banks get away with everything. The banking industry has gotten so big and complicated it was time for someone to bring them down a notch. Here is a great video showing why she is what we needed in Congress, someone who fights for the people.

Failed War on Drugs The war on drugs has failed to bring the results it was supposed to since President Nixon launched the campaign during his term. Eugene Jarecki makes the case of why the drug war has failed us, not just the drug users but everybody and why we need to turn our attention to helping those with the problem instead of locking them up.
Protecting the Middle Class America is the most powerful country because of its middle class. It is the teachers, firefighters, policeman, and blue collar workers that drive this economy. So the nation has to work hard to protect the middle class and lawmakers have to pass laws that cement the foundation that it was built on. By making sure unions are protected, expanding financial aid so that students can afford it and get the proper education and investing in America so that the future jobs are created here.
Progressive Rise Progressive Democrats need to start having their voices heard in congress, the Tea Party has had more voice in this congress for the past 2 years in a half. Progressives need to do a better job of defining the party, we have to make sure that people don't say that we are for to much government. We also have to remind people how government helped them in their lives whether it be financial aid, food stamps, social security, and regulations that keep our food safe and the environment clean.

Saturday, April 6, 2013

Disappointing President Obama disappointed a lot of progressives yesterday by catering to the Republicans on social security. President Obama has to understand that the Republicans are not going to like any of his policies and are not going to meet him half way on anything. They want the President to look bad, that way they could criticize him and make his Presidency look bad. President Obama should just go progressive and stay progressive on his second term because if the Republicans don't give him an inch in negotiations then he should just distance himself a mile from them and let the American people decide who to blame for this dysfunctional government.

Democrats Need Congress Back As the 2014 congressional candidates are starting to come out to let the people know that they are running. Democrats have to make sure to fight to get the house back from the Republicans. It would make the Presidents job a whole lot easier because the President has a lot on his plate and he can't get anything passed with this congress. The one congressional candidate we have to vote out is Speaker John Boehner. Democratic efforts in Ohio to unseat the speaker should be made a priority. Andrew Hounshell served in the army, was a steel worker, and he is a family man and is running against the Speaker. It is time for Ohio to have a new Representative that worries about the people instead of party politics.

Presidential Salary The President of the United States deserves every penny of his salary I don't care who it is Democrat or Republican. The President runs the most powerful country in the world and he deserves to get paid well. The salary of $400,000 a year is good compared to what other foreign leaders get paid. The Queen of England for example got a raise of 5.6 million dollars while the people got a decreased minimum wage. The Queen is not even in charge of the country, the prime minister is. She just gets paid to be the symbol of the UK and to hold state dinners for foreign leaders.

The Power of Hate

Hate is a powerful emotion, it makes us arrogant and blind to seeing other peoples point of view. Many Republicans hate President Obama, they would rather see this nation brought to its knees than pass any of his policies. The Republicans did a good job letting the sequester happen, and now many communities are feeling the pain. It might be good policy to fight against President Obamas administration but as a supporter of the administration I will remember the negativity the Republicans threw at the President.

Really!!! As immigration reform is reaching the final stages of completion and both Democrats and Republicans are patting themselves on the back for actually working together. Congressman Don Young did not do the Republicans a favor by referring to Mexican farm workers as "wetbacks". It just went to show what kind of mindset some of these farm owners had back in those days when they had people working to make them a profit.

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Screw Mexico Mexico is one of the worst countries when it comes to letting foreigners visit or live in the country. So I don't understand why Mexican officials are lobbying for immigration reform in the United States. Mexican nationals should not come to the United States if they are going to wave Mexican flags, that country has not given you anything to deserve worship. If you feel that strongly about Mexico then move there and try to make that country better. That country keeps its people poor, its corrupt, relies on drug profits to survive and its unstable.

Palestinian State Palestinian statehood has been in the works for a long time now, but their has been no accomplishment. Israelis in my opinion are pushing for a single country, and I think they should. Israel is in a tough spot, when your surrounded by Muslim countries that want you wiped out of this earth then you have to wonder what your best options should be. Israel is the only Jewish state and this country needs to be there and protected, so if there is another holocaust the Jewish people will be protected.

Wage Gap Many Americans don't realize that the top earners of this country are getting a great deal from uncle Sam. The top 10 percent of Americans are living the life, while the other 90 percent are concentrating on just getting by. Here are some statistics on the gap.
Hispanic Caucus The Congressional Hispanic caucus has grown significantly since the Latino vote started to matter, and the immigration debate started to heat up. The caucus has been involved in the immigration talks that are currently happening in the senate. Representative Luis Gutierrez has been a vocal supporter of immigration reform since he has been an office, I think he has done a great job of making the case for immigrants that really can't speak for themselves.

Sleeping Giant As Obamacare makes its way to the states, many GOP governors are changing their stance on Obamacare by adopting it. The only state that hasn't adopted it yet is Texas because of its anti-federal government governor Rick Perry. Rick Perrys hard stance against Obamacare is going affect many Texans by denying them good affordable coverage. It is also going to awaken the hispanic voting block, because once they see that the only thing blocking them from getting good insurance coverage is a stubborn governor, (who himself has good coverage thanks to the tax payer) are not going to be pleased.
Economic Boost Immigrants are essential to the United States, they come here and create businesses out of necessity. With businesses being created the economy grows. Here is an article that specifies how immigrants add to economic growth.
